Large Pair of Empire Sconces, Circa 1860, with Heavy Egyptian Influences
Item Number: 5934
This gorgeous pair of 19th century Empire sconces are made of bronze and tole, and feature fantastically stylized Egyptian figures on each backplate. Note the details in the wings, the fabric and hands with fingers resting on the arms. The center features a delicately detailed wreath above a flaming, winged torch. The four arms are beautifully detailed as well, with each bobeche featuring acanthus leaves and a profiled face. At bottom, the Egyptian figure’s feet rests on a golden bronze ball. The pair is a true reflection of the artistry in the 1800s, as well as the heavy Egyptian influence on the French during its creation, circa 1860, due to Napoleon’s campaign in the region.
Price: $18,000 pair
