This pair of French Louis XVI open arm chairs (fauteuils) features beautifully carved walnut and dates back to the 19th century. The hand carving is truly fantastic, with delicate details found in the block marguerites, acanthus leaves and pattern work on the arms, and the design work on the chair’s back especially. The pair features fluted legs and is upholstered in the original petit-point.

French 19th Century Louis XVI ‘Fauteuil’ Armchair

This French Louis XVI "fauteuil" armchair features a beautiful carved walnut and dates back to the 19th century. Hand carved fluting is found throughout the piece, with block marguerites at the top of each tapered, fluted leg. The arms sport a simple swirl motif, and the chair back features marguerites extending at top right and left. Finally, the back, seat, and arms are all upholstered in a grey velvet with upholstery tacks.
