This French single light bronze sconce dates back to the late 19th century and features a multitude of details. The ornately cast arm ends in a cut glass globe, with the bulb as the staymen of the flower. The positioning of the downward facing bulb (impossible in candle burning fixtures) reflects the novelty of the electric light, invented shortly before this piece was created. The casting features whimsical details; note the face on the back plate, the face on the arm looking downward with the light, and the additional face on the arm near the backplate. The crescent shaped arm offers great movement and balance, combining with the floral bulb light to produce a beautiful French fixture.
