French 19th Century Baccarat Napoleon III Chandelier, Bronze d’Ore, Ram Heads
This majestic Napoleon III finely chiseled ormolu chandelier is exquisite. The French antique piece dates back to the 19th century, and features a plethora of magnificent details. Beginning at the top, we see a crown sporting acanthus leaves on scroll arms, draped with ropes of octagon-cut crystals, with large, faceted pear-shaped crystal teardrop hanging from each scroll. Below this crown the chandelier begins in a floriate design, with beading and lines on three tiers of arms descending from rams’ heads design, each holding a ring in its mouth, with a large pear-shaped crystal hanging from each ring. The arms are draped with ropes of octagon-cut crystals, and varied shapes of crystal plaquettes. The chandelier is composed of several fluted bronze d’ore bowls draped with the same ropes of octagon-cut crystals, complete with delicately detailed bronze d’ore drippers, candle cups, and bobeches under each of its twenty-four candles. The center bowl has bunches of flowers descending to the fluted bottom bowl, composed of bronze d’ore acanthus leaves, just as the bottom of each bobeche, with the crystal star and rope of round faceted crystal beads hanging vertically, ending in large solid crystal ball finial with elegant lapidary cut.
