This French, 19th century Chinoiserie black lacquer and gilded kneehole desk features an impressive 9 drawer fronts decorated with flora, fauna, pagodas, and classic Japanese scene. The French antique piece sports the originl brass drawer pulls,  and a top decorated with raised Japanese characters, a house in the distance, pagoda, and bridge. The piece is beautifully adorned throughout with flora and fauna.

The word chinoiserie Originated in France in the 18^th century, meaning “in the Chinese manner”, when anything Chinese or Japanese export was a display of wealth.  This is when French furniture was lacquered and decorated with Chinese scenes in figures.
