This Louis XVI hand-carved mirror is truly magnificent. The piece dates back to the 19th century and is gilt, meaning simply yet elegantly that it’s covered in gold leaf, and features a beveled center and side panels. The top is adorned with a pair of birds on a wreath, a flaming torch, quivered arrows, and finally gorgeous garlands cascading over either side. The piece may have originally been created as a wedding gift as a pair of birds were depicted to symbolize love and were most often seen included in gifts for newlyweds. The flame and arrows were symbols as well, for longevity and justice respectively.
