This classic French Louis XVI bergere is carved from beautiful walnut and dates back to the 19th century. The top of the contoured back features pristinely carved roses and leaves, alongside floriate carvings throughout. The sides, back, and seat are caned, with upholstery on top of each arm. Square “Marguerites” can be found carved at the top and side of each fluted leg, which are themselves graduated in size towards the bottom. The piece is delicately detailed and well balanced, a true depiction of French artistry in the 19th century.

19th Century Regence Gilt Wood Armchairs with Original Aubusson Tapestry

This set of three extremely fine French Regence armchairs features beautiful gilt wood and dates back to the 19th century. The fauteuil pieces are beautifully carved and feature arched, canted, rectangular backs, over bowed seats within serpentine arms, all shimmering from the gold leaf covering. Each chair is raised on cabriole legs ending in scroll feet with a front carved with shell center, and acanthus leaves. The upholstery is gorgeous and in fantastic shape, featured on the seats, fronts, and arms. The backs upholstered on the backs, seats, and arms in fine floral tapestry, with the back classicly are upholstered in a classic French cotton plaid. Lastly, each chair has a carved giltwood “X” form, serpentine stretcher attached to its four legs.

French 19th Century Single Bronze Sconce

This French single light bronze sconce dates back to the late 19th century and features a multitude of details. The ornately cast arm ends in a cut glass globe, with the bulb as the staymen of the flower. The positioning of the downward facing bulb (impossible in candle burning fixtures) reflects the novelty of the electric light, invented shortly before this piece was created. The casting features whimsical details; note the face on the back plate, the face on the arm looking downward with the light, and the additional face on the arm near the backplate.
