This gorgeous Louis XV secretaire abbatant features details in abundance. Perhaps most notably, the French antique 19th Century piece sports Vernis Martin decorations on the front, sides and legs. These decorations include allegorical figures in an oval framed in bronze, allegorical scenes on both sides, and birds on the front of each drawer. The top is adorned with marble and enveloped in a pierced gallery. The oval center, feet, and both front and back sides are all draped in detailed, balanced bronze mounts. Finally, the interior is lined with rare satin wood, king’s wood, and a beautiful bronze inlay.

French 19th Century Empire Mahogany Writing Table with Bronze Heads and Lion Feet
Item Number: 1564
This classic Empire writing table is made of decedent mahogany and features detailed bronze mounts balanced with precision. Dating back to the 19th century, the French antique piece sports bronze Egyptian heads above each leg. Each head is angled to face the room on the diagonal. Continuing down the tapered legs, below the profiled figures, we find fantastic lions’ paw feet. The table’s apron is adorned with bronze mounts, and an elaborate escutcheon on each of two drawers. The mounts on the apron offer one final detail on each side; the winged head of Hermes resting in the center of a diamond. While the piece is classic in style, it is of course rare in its balanced, stately beauty.
