19th Century French Louis XVI Hand-Carved Gilt Bevelled Mirror

This Louis XVI hand-carved mirror is truly magnificent. The piece dates back to the 19th century and is gilt, meaning simply yet elegantly that it’s covered in gold leaf, and features a beveled center and side panels. The top is adorned with a pair of birds on a wreath, a flaming torch, quivered arrows, and finally gorgeous garlands cascading over either side.  The piece may have originally been created as a wedding gift as a pair of birds were depicted to symbolize love and were most often seen included in gifts for newlyweds. The flame and arrows were symbols as well, for longevity and justice respectively.

This magnificent rock crystal and bronze d’ore chandelier comes from the Paris residence of the Baron James-Mayer de Rothschild, the legendary l’Hotel Talleyrand. At what was probably the most exquisite “hotel particulier” in Paris, the Rothschilds’ entertained lavishly. Historically, when the building was purchased by the U. S. government after World War II, l’Hotel Talleyrand became the site of the administration of the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe. The building continues to host international, political, and cultural events bearing witness to this opulent lifestyle today The value of rock crystal is determined by its weight, clarity, and size, a trifecta in which this chandelier excels. Regence Painted Buffet à Deux Corps, Early 18th Century

The piece is a true period piece, made in the Regence era when Louis XV was too young of age to rule so the country was ruled temporarily by King Phillipe D’Orleans. Napoleon III Server with Exquisite Marquetry, Heavily Chased Bronze, and Breche Violette Marble

This exquisite Napoleon III two door server features heavily chased bronze d'ore mounts and dates back to the 19th century. The piece in which it is modeled after was designed in the 18th century for the King’s Library at the Palace of Versailles, and in fact remains at the palace still. The marquetry is finely detailed, the center featuring tulip wood, a slightly green wood commonly known as tulip or yellow poplar, satin wood, and pear wood all together combining to show the flower motif and urn on its side. Finally, the top is made of breche violet marble.
